Set in a futuristic version of Japan, Isle of Dogs begins with a remarkable health quandary in the city of Megasaki, a city teeming with life and economy, where it is ruled by the politically entrenched and infamous, Mayor Kobayashi. A peculiar variant of the ‘flu’ known in the city as ‘dog flu’ mysteriously manifests itself, creating a threat which endangers the health and safety of the ‘human’ beings and equally of the canines. To address the developments of this peculiar circumstances, the Mayor exiles the dogs onto Trash Island after signing a decree that will dubiously leave the unsuspecting canines in a state of perpetual banishment.
The first starved of freedom is Spots, a devoted mate unequally cherished by a bodyguard who is assigned to Atari Kobayashi. Atari, as the 12-year-old remote ward of the former and now remote bodyguard, is the avid ‘Pluto’ to ‘Mars’, the exiled dog. Spots is no ordinary dog; he is the most sophisticated bodyguard dog one could ever come across To the boy, losing the Flame of Affection in the ‘chapter’ turns out to be the most diffcult feeling of all. With, Utopia has paved in exiles of the dogs, the deserted and polluted Trash Island is no longer to be considered a ‘paradise’ of sociopathy.
Six months later, amid the gloomy reality of a ‘Trash Island’, a peculiar order exists where dogs have strangely adapted to their new environment. The dogs are led by five notable characters—Independent Rex, an uncollared stray, and the pack leaders Self Declared, Boss, King, and Duke, all of whom live as opportunistic relatives and pose as affectionate family.
Back to Megasaki, and sadly, considered the epicenter of all scientific pursuits, is where the dog flu ever petulant remains wished for, as zealotry for antidotal deployment remains apparent. In this case, the letdowns are greater as the unsung anime villain remains stymied—only a few canisters of doomsday left in the ark.
The villainous intentions of the empire are interrupted by a leap in the narrative structure, as in a retro dystopia, the time traveler, the Avatar of The New World Order, flies a small single prop vintage aircraft—imprisoning through time all physical forms of narrative storytelling and fiction to lavish rewards of illusioning. There they meet a pack of fabulously delighted cuties, who share near’s of the child’s galant. A frantic bout of bravery, sound of sadness strumming the wise heart, they reconcile the explosion of memories to mend for vestiges.During their search for Spots, the groups must cross highly challenging terrains and solve multiple puzzles to guess his location. One of the groups even gets to the Abandoned Amusement Park, only to encounter more dogs and the Megasaki government’s dog tanks. These are only the first of the many obstacles that they are sure to face.
Currently, the relation between Chief and Atari is slowly changing. Capturing Atari’s dog, Captain, was one of his most grateful moments, which shed light to the change happening in his heart. Chief discovered something shocking, that he resembled Spots, which suggests that they are close, maybe even siblings.
In the other hand, there is Tracy Walker, the first dog defender, who gets exposed to this reality much later. While investigating the reasons for dog exile, she gets to know that the corruption goes all the way up to Mayor Kobayashi. Facing her, she is ready to scream and shout, to make her fellow students sit protesting on the streets while most scientists around the Mayor sit idly by. Little by little, Tracy is able to turn public opinion around and raise doubts on the Mayor’s actions.
Eventually, Atari and the dogs reach a place where they get new information about what happened to Spots. They find out that to the more remote part of the island called “the Far East,” he had been sent to lead a pack of exiled dogs. Spots, by the time they get to him, has undergone a transformation. Not only is he a leader, but a leader who is dominant and has a family of his own. The leader and Atari have a very emotional and heartwarming reunion. They are overjoyed to see each other, but it is apparent that they have both undergone a transformation in their lives during the time of their separation.
At this point, the group has received information that the new strategy devised by Mayor Kobayashi is to get rid of all dogs on Trash Island permanently. The clock is ticking. With the help of Tracy and her supporters in the city along with a band of rebel scientists, Atari and the dogs go back to Megasaki to try and defend the plan and reveal the truth.

It’s hard not to appreciate the angle of the movie’s unique animation, the emotion added with every character, and the storytelling’s art. Above all, the compassion, trust, and bonds that can exist between species and the impact of it all is what the movie strives to leave behind.
