Summary

The Pixar animated film Ratatouille was released in 2007 by Walt Disney Pictures. It is an animated movie that is filled with humor, creative work, and inspiration. The movie was directed by Brad Bird. It takes a look at a hero that no one would expect: a rat by the name of Remy. Remy is a character that dares to dream beyond the limits of the world he is used to and is able to transcend those boundaries.

The movie is set in the beautiful French city of Paris, and it starts with Remy and his family, which consists of a huge rat colony, living in the countryside. Remy, a rat, is the only one with a sense of taste and smell. While the rest of his family is happy to scavenge for food, he dreams of being a chef. He is deeply inspired by the fictional French chef Auguste Gusteau, and one of his quotes, “Anyone can cook,” resonates deeply with him.

He is looked down upon, especially by his father Django, who thinks that the human world only provides doom and gloom. He thinks that Remy is doing something that is highly dangerous by pursuing his passion, but the fact is that he is watching television shows, and reading cookbooks which is a sign of zeal.

An unfortunate encounter caused Remy to lose his family and find himself in Paris right next to a struggling Gusteau’s Restaurant. Remy had no one and nothing. However, since Gusteau was once a five-star chef, Remy’s chances were not entirely hopeless. After all, a Gusteau’s meant Gusteau had to have some kind of culinary connection to the restaurant.

Linguini was the recently appointed lad as the restaurant’s garbage boy. Though he was as sweet as a summer day, he was a total novice in the culinary scene. By some unfortunate circumstance, he made a blunder in a bowl of soup. While watching him, in Remy’s view, he suspected the boy needed help, although he didn’t want to intervene. However once Remy descended and altered the soup, he made waves among the staff and guests wishing the soup was as mighty tasty as his-chicken soup.

During the celebration, the boy was their target. He had no right to be in the kitchen. Instead of being punished, Linguini made the unlikely premise that Remy actually was a genius in among all rats. Remy and Linguini joined forces, and their results were marvelous. All thanks to Linquete’s chef sash belt and some original wr-leg of lamb principles, the two were able to finally restore some life to the once-dying restaurant. The burgeoning kitchen staff, especially the ambitious and perceptive Chef Colette, starts smelling something fishy. She becomes Linguini’s mentor, and later, his friend. In the meantime, the restaurant’s popularity continues to soar, and alongside it, the suspicions of Head Chef Skinner rise too. He is after all, the custodian of Gusteau’s legacy and the owner of the thriving frozen food empire.

Remy is left to expertise over the junction of his increasing responsibilities in the kitchen and the urge to reunite with his rat family. He is also at the core of an internal struggle, where he is left to define his true self. Although he is blossoming to his full potential, it is alarming to note the risk of being discovered is ever increasing and the situation seems perilous.

The peak of the plot is when Anton Ego, the notorious food critic with the reputation of serving nothing short of a scathing review, announces a visit to the restaurant. Ego challenges everyone in the kitchen. In the midst of all the chaos, when the truth about Remy comes to light, everyone in the restaurant staff walks out and Linguini admits the secret. He is aided by Colette and his family to prepare a humble yet impeccably dish; ratatouille, the vegetable dish with French origin, which then proceeds to shocked Ego and stirred deep feelings since it reminded him of his childhood.

Ego’s review is one of a kind and states that Remy is “nothing less than the finest chef in France.” Although the restaurant is closed due to heath code violations caused by rats in the kitchen, the characters do open a new smaller bistro where humans and rats can safely enjoy the cooking of one another.

This film won the Academy Award for best animated feature, as well as 4 additional nominations; best original screenplay and score included. Several critics praised the film for its originality, rich visual style, and message of creativity and individuality.

Families and young kids enjoyed the film for its humor, adventurous talking animals, while the older audience appreciated the films deeper ideas of ambition, self-expression, and breaking social expectations.

Themes and Messages

The movie Ratatouille speaks boundless passion and passion, and the difficult journey sometimes required to attain such a fulfilling goal, intertwined with the question of one’s self identity. Remy embodies an outcast with the unyielding desire of self definition. Rat Remy worlds which he is a part of, and below’s his kitchen, is brushed with a soul-shattering decor of disdain. With unyielding tenacity, he breaks the hands of disguise and past which daunt his protruding talents, and shows that to be talented and to be full of passion is above appearances and background of a person.

The most claimed quote of the movie, “Anyone can cook,” serves an even more generous purpose by encapsulating the changing thoughts acquired by the audience. “Anyone can cook,” is a phrase availed and reapplied during the whole span of the movie, and serves a more complex agenda than “anyone becoming a chef.”

The movie has, as well, the subjects of family and acceptance and is an intermix of cooperation. Remy has the opportunity to embrace his origin during the chase of the goal. Linguini’s growth of self-believe is also shown with the help of Remy. Anton Ego, although he is known for his cruelty, learns the most vital point, that food – as well as life, approached by love, are to be savored with joy.

The movie also has impact on art. Ego’s part of the movie shows that critiques, similar to artists, can be inspired by pure emotions. True talent is also something which can be found from an unpredictable and unimagined origin.

Conclusion

Cooking is just one of the elements of the movie Ratatouille. It possesses a true emotional tale alongside the humor. The movie is uplifted by the message while the humor is preserved by the characters. The visuals are striking, to put it mildly, and the film inspires the audience to follow their passions and seek greatness free of doubt and fear while celebrating the greatness of others.

It does not matter the age of the viewer, for every child will have fun and every adult will take away thoughtful ideas. As the credits roll, the viewer is left with a new perspective. It is a tribute to the power of original thought, love, and the belief that even the smallest of us can accomplish incredible things— provided that we dream and unite.
