Synopsis
Orion and the Dark is a touching animated movie that humorously incorporates fantasy as well as self-discovery during the journey to face one’s fears. Contrary to the perception Orion had of Dark, as an embodiment of darkness, Dark is not something disturbing, instead, he is big, gentle, animated, and even kind. Dark had something to tell Orion and immediately sets out to shift Orion’s perception as to not fear him, instead to appreciate him as a being, a being that descends from the dark and gifts the world rest, joy, dreams, and beauty.
To prove this, Dark takes Orion on a night-time adventure, for what he calls, as a magical journey. They swim in the sky, glide through dreams, and interact with other Night Entities that each represent the differing dimensions of the night. These include characters such as Sleep, Dream, Silence, Insomnia, and Random Noises. Each character in Orion’s Night Character book helps him to see night in a revolutionary manner, in turn, dismantling each of the episodes that cause Orion to have night-time anxieties.
Bit by bit, Orion learns in the dream that he has mythology in his blood, Dark helps him to realize the beauty that life at night holds, the tranquility it offers, the night. It is important to remember the role he plays to civilization. Throughout this tale, Orion talks about the wondrous aspects of life he tends to shrug off.
There exists this companionship between Orion and Dark. Both startfeared nand after a period, manage to build trust and understanding. Dark, becomes Orion was able to build his confidence and overcome fears in his life.
There is a narrative structural twist present where the story is told from the Orion’s point of view as he is an adult. He narrates the events to his daughter. This layer adds emotional depth, showing how the fears of childhood are transformed and the lessons to be learned from them are told with a lot of care. Remembering how everyone in the world is afraid of something, it is important to not allow these fears to take control over one’s life.
He has a special relationship with Dark that was able to help him find a an inner strength. This makes it so that Orion is no longer overwhelmed. This was the case with the rest of world opened up to him as well.
This is an end of the film. he Orion, after his journey, comes in with a sense of peace. He is no longer overwhelmed however, it is obvious that he still is a bit nervous.

Main Voice Cast:
Jacob Tremblay as Orion – Tremblay’s performance as Orion is commendable. He embodied a likable and relatable little boy who puts on an anxious personality.
Paul Walter Hauser as Dark – Hauser possesses a comforting voice which made his character Dark feel embracing and friendly. He is considered warm with a hint of humor and so lovable.
Angela Bassett, Ike Barinholtz, Nat Faxon, and Golda Rosheuvel – Golda and the rest of the actors contribute to the other Night Entities and voice them with much talented humor and charm unique to each character.
Colin Hanks – Hanks gives Orion as an adult a full circle story. He being the narrator as to Orion gives a nurturing and reflective tone.

The film is produced by DreamWorks Animation so they continue to combine emotion with their high quality animation. Orion and the Dark in particular is imaginative in its animation style along with vibrant and appealing to a variety of age groups.

‘Orion and the Dark’ movies was positively received and critiqued earning it an IMDb Rating of 6.6/10. Although the movie does not seem like a blockbuster movie, it has certainly touched the audience with its strong message and images.
