Migration’s colorful animation and gentle humor make the film suitable for viewers of all ages because it attempts to tackle issues of growth and togetherness.
The protagonist of the film is a member of the famous duck family. Mallard, renowned across New England, is complemented with the voice of one of many famous actors. The protagonist of the film, along with the other voices that fill the characters, is directed by Benjamin Renner. The principal themes within the film Migration focuses on family, love, the willingness to change, and order disorder. These themes alongside the other elements within the film make Migration a perfect family film for enjoying together.
The family of ducks that the film centers around live in a pond that is extremely peaceful, surrounded New England. The father of the duck family, Mack, is very careful and a tad bit paranoid. Because of this, he is reluctant to leave with the family on adventures. He keeps thinking that the outer world is dangerous, therefore he puts in a lot of effort to make sure their lives are peaceful and quiet. On the other hand, Pam, is more imaginative and is in the process of planning an excursion beyond the pond.
Curious and full of excitement as children often are, Dax and Gwen live with Uncle Dan, Mack’s grumpy – yet lovably so – uncle, who adds a layer of silly onto their otherwise ordinary days. Dax, a teenage duck, dreams of flying to new places and is able to catch a glimpse of them every day. And Gwen, his younger sister, is full of wide-eyed wonder and innocence.
Mack, Pam and the children, are convinced by the ducks to join them on their migratory trek to Jamaica. This prompts the group to daydream about a Holland isle with wide skies, warm weather, and a tropical paradise. The ducks first tell Pam about Holland’s tropical island, and, with the children, Mack’s excitement can barely be contained. Mack… gets to join the ducks … and the children!
Deviating from the expected route, the Mallard family is supposed to be heading straight for Jamaica but instead, the family becomes separated and is ultimately found as they they fly over New York City’s busy streets.
In the city, the ducks encounter many different kinds of birds, including the stubborn Chump, a streetwise pigeon who heads a gang of birds, and Delroy, a brilliant scarlet macaw who yearns for his native Jamaica. With the assistance of the new friends, the Mallards learn to cope with new environment, develop collaboration skills, and even unlock dormant courage.
In the end, the family triumphs over the challenges in their journey, strengthening their unity in the process, and arrives to the much-anticipated Jamaica, where they can finally enjoy the sunshine and the vast open skies of their dreams. More importantly, they return with a refreshed outlook towards life, love and new adventures.

- Family Comes First
The Mallards hold true to their family values throughout the trip. They help each other in times of distress and understand how love and teamwork can help solve problems.
- Change is Bad
One of the most important themes in the film is Mack’s personal development. At the beginning of the film, he is terrified of the world outside. In the end, he discovers that wandering in the unknown can also bring great joy.
- Curiosity and Courage
Both children, particularly Dax and Gwen, demonstrate that curiosity comes instinctively. Their wish and desire to explore the world furthers pushes the family to expand.
- Friendship
The Mallards socialize with birds that come from various cultures. These friendships help them learn the value of bonding through caring and trust.
- Enjoy The Journey
In principle, the journey can be the most significant part of the experience. Each destination results in happiness, teachings, and progress.
